Thank you for taking the time to select the nominees for the 2026 BET Awards- specifically in the category Sportswoman of the Year. The Cancel Claressa Accountability Campaign & Boycott (CCACB) organized by the California nonprofit group Digital Advocates United, respectfully asks the committee to consider whether the public figure and professional woman boxer Claressa Shields should be eligible to receive a 2026 BET Award given her reported hostile conduct toward other Black women athletes throughout 2026.
Our key concerns include:
- February 2026: Physically shoved another Black woman athlete (Franchón Crews-Deszurn) during a pre-fight weigh-in, contributing to a melee. The injured athlete was forced to compete while hurt, and the nominee later mocked her online and allegedly shared content that encouraged fan harassment.
- April 2026: Publicly mocked another Black woman athlete (Shadasia Green) who suffered severe brain injuries during a sanctioned match, celebrating her loss and using laughing emojis on social media.
- May 16, 2026: Physically slapped another athlete (Alycia Baumgardner) outside of a sanctioned competition at a public event. The nominee reportedly showed no remorse, publicly gloated about the incident, and was subsequently banned from the promotion company’s events.
The BET Awards should continue to recognize excellence, leadership, and positive representation of Black women.
We respectfully urge the committee to consider whether this pattern of alarming behavior by the nominee reflects the values BET seeks to honor.

Clarissa is not a good person
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Noah. Based on her own actions and words, in my opinion, Shields doesn’t show the characteristics of a good person or role model.
I feel that Clarissa Shields doesn’t deserve this award. It’s very disrespectful that she would even be nominated! For Clarissa Shields to be in the same class of the other nominees imagine how they feel. I’m very disappointed in BET and if she wins I won’t be watching again! I’ve been in a abusive relationship and have PTSD so this hits different for me! She really attacked Alicia and laughed at Shadaisa Green, the toy drive and disrespectful to a legend. So is that good sportsmanship? Not at all period.
Thanks Indy for sharing your thoughts and experiences. I am so sorry about what you had to go through dealing with abuse and violence yourself. Violence is never the answer, and no one should have to be subject to it. Claressa – just like all abusers, need to be held accountable for her cruel actions. This has gone too far and it’s astonishing how the Michigan Unarmed Combat Commission and other athletic commissions have yet to hold her accountable. She doesn’t deserve any award – especially when it comes to being nominated for Sportswoman of the Year.
I will not support Claressa as an example for women in sports
I submitted my complaint to BET. I am going to submit it to the other companies as well. I stand in agreement with what you are doing. I commend her on all of her accolades, but she has to learn to take accountability. She has no business with the “Black Excellence Award,” especially when you are willfully sleeping with a married man. What message does that send to the youth? Keep going. You will have many who will walk the line with you.

Yes, she has mixed her personal life with her professional career so unfortunately we have to see that she’s publicly dating a married man. Furthermore, she brings this violent man with her to sports events to act like her “security guard”. We saw video footage of the married man standing behind her while she physically assaulted Alycia Baumgardner. Unacceptable behavior.
Claressa Shields needs a Mental Evaluation at this point. How can you nominate someone who condones Adultery, Scamming, illegal business with the mayor of her home town, throwing children out of a Christmas fund drive, because she didn’t like what the mother comment was on Facebook.

I definitely agree with the decision to cancel this behavior. As a 65yr ood woman she can’t represent our ppl. There’s already negativity in the world how we are perceived. Thank you for recognizing this issue and stepping in to help 🙏🏾
I don’t think she would be nominated because the things she has done this yr was not worthy for women of the yr. They need to stop letting her get away with the stupid.
BET… outside of her boxing, etc… Have you all watched her behavior on all social media platforms? This lady has thrown children out of a fundraiser, she attacked another boxer, she makes threats to men and women. Let’s not forget she’s a mistress. She’s forever putting others down. She’s just not a good role model for children or anyone. Please do not consider her for any type of award because that would be like rewarding, bad behavior. Thank you.
Bad example for young woman and for the youth
For what I have observed Claressa Shields it’s not the right example I would support for the younger generation . I DONT Support nothing she does .
Something has to be done before someone is Hurt on a diabolical level that can’t be reversed. Shields needs to be mentally evaluated, and if she is not mentally unstable, then she needs to be held accountable for her menace behavior expeditiously…
